Micro Studio

Micro Studio

October 20, 2015

One of the first projects I started with the New Zealand Squash Juniors was to create a team uniform for the team to travel to Penang Malayasia for the Malaysian Junior Open.  It was the perfect opportunity to work with our Won.house team to create the first micro studio designed and produced range of clothing.

We were able to take the design ideas from the head coach of the national squash team and turn these into a customized artwork solely for the national Junior team.

Yumi designed the artwork with the software platform in Won.house, she was then able to use the 3D software to design and create the styles and virtual prototypes of the tops and bottoms for the team.

Once we had sign off on the design from the Head Coach we used the won.house print technology to color the Silvertech fabric to create the printed panels and then stitch in-house.  We completed concept to sample garment in NZ within 1 week in the exact fabric, colors and style.

We received the orders and created approximately 90 pieces for the team and the traveling supporters which we donated to NZ Squash Juniors in exchange for feedback on the design and style of the garments.

We repeated the exercise for the Canada and US Open in December 2019. this allowed us to evaluate the process and give me inspiration to create Iwi Athletica to use the micro studio to support the business plan.

Now we have evolved this whole process to be able to scale and produce more on demand product.  The birth of On Demand Manufacturing within Won.house
